“Finding skilled craftspeople and fostering new talent in the cut and sew industry is essential to keeping production in the United States,” says Guarino. “These scholarships will provide the opportunity for students to become trained and certified for an industry with high-quality, in-demand jobs. We invite our customers to join us in helping to preserve the mastery of the American cut and sew practice through education.” — Jen Guarino, CEO, J.W. Hulme Co.

How it works:

  • November 7th – November 23rd, 2012
  • To participate, use code Artisans2012 at checkout
  • We will donate 5% of your order to the scholarship fund
  • For orders over $300, customers will receive a complimentary limited edition Hamline Pocket Journal

There’s a crisis in America. We no longer know how to make things by hand. The art of sewing is something our grandmother’s use to do and the craft of making things has been taken over by screen time.

At J.W. Hulme we are 100% committed to making products here in the U.S. and because of that we want to make sure we have the skilled workforce to do so. That is why we are partnering with a local trade school that trains students how to make things by hand, once again. From now until November 23rd we will be donating 5% of all of our sales to a scholarship fund to support this effort. This is one purchase you can feel good about. As a thank you, if you spend over $300 we will send you a limited edition Hamline pocket journal.

Thank you for your support! Join the movement.

MN Historical Society Visit

On Wednesday morning, the fabulous members of the Women’s Organization of the Minnesota Historical Society (WOMHS) paid us a visit. While they were here, WOMHS took a tour our workshop and learned a bit about our 100-plus-year history. They enjoyed some treats from local pastry shop Bread & Chocolate, and got to take a sneak peek at some of our new Fall styles. See a few snapshots below from their visit.

They shopped our show room.

Learned about our history as a St. Paul, Minnesota landmark.

And took a tour of our workshop, lead by sales manager, Kim.

Seconds & Sample Sale

J.W. Hulme Co. will be hosting its semi-annual Seconds Sale this Saturday, August 20th from 10am to 2pm at our showroom.

Every bag that leaves J.W. Hulme Co. must pass our rigorous quality control inspection. Those that don’t pass land on our seconds rack. Chris, our quality control manager, inspects every bag, finding small imperfections that you’ll need your glasses to see for yourself. This process ensures that when you order a bag from JWH you are getting superior quality. It also allows us to sell slightly flawed items at great prices. You will find some discontinued items and samples on our seconds rack as well.

Please note this sale applies to in-store purchases only. We will not be able to accept phone orders for the seconds sale.

Artful Living & J.W. Hulme Co.

This past week J.W. Hulme Co. and Artful Living had the pleasure of hosting an event at our Saint Paul workshop.  Event go-ers enjoyed factory tours, a preview of our new Fall Collection, the opportunity to get their bags or leather goods monogrammed and were entered in a drawing to design their own Legacy Handbag.

Our leathers feel as good as they look. During a factory tour you just can’t help but touch the different leathers.

One lucky lady had the opportunity to watch her American Heritage Legacy Handbag get embossed with her monogram. Watching the entire process can be a little nerve wrecking, but the results are always stunning.

See more photos from the event on our Facebook Page.
