We’re excited to announce our limited-edition collaboration with another legendary American-made brand: Woolrich.
Known for its rugged, dependable woolen outdoor gear—plus the high standards of quality that come from 180 years of American manufacturing experience—makes them the perfect partner for J.W. Hulme. Between us, there are 288 years of rich design and construction experience!
Together, we created two instant classics: a carryall tote and a holiday stocking. They’ve captured the hardworking, artisanal spirit of both J.W. Hulme and Woolrich.
Our durable, 12-ounce olive canvas creates the foundation. That’s topped with an exclusive, direct-from-Woolrich moss green and mahogany plaid. Naturally, that paired perfectly with our oxblood Heritage leather trim. The tote is strong enough to carry it all, and stylish enough to go from day to night to weekend. The stocking is one that will definitely be hung by the chimney with care!

Our bestselling Legacy handbag is featured in the August 2013 issue of InStyle magazine. This mini-version of our Legacy Shoulder Bag is modeled after a classic saddle bag, but with all the fine details of a quality leather handbag. In American Heritage brown leather. Made in our gently distressed leather tanned exclusively for JW Hulme. Each bag is carefully hand-buffed and antiqued. The result: A unique and finely aged keepsake. Made in America, handcrafted in St. Paul, MN.
J.W. Hulme, an American classic since 1905, identified Brooks Brothers, the country’s oldest retailer founded in 1818, as an ally in the American-made movement. We’re honored to partner with this American icon by creating co-branded business cases, duffles and messenger bags in our signature American Heritage brown and Saddle Heritage golden tan leathers, sourced from domestic tanneries. Each piece is hand crafted and buffed by Hulme artisans to create an individual patina that becomes even more beautiful over time.
“Our partnership with Brooks Brothers celebrates and embraces the American-made movement and provides a new approach to traditional styles for men, “ says Jen Guarino, CEO and Co-owner of J.W. Hulme Co. “We’re delighted to align with this brand that also values heritage, quality and the American Dream.”
This exclusive collection is now available in select Brooks Brothers stores including New York (Madison Avenue), Boston (Newbury Street), Washington D.C. (Connecticut Avenue), Chicago (Michigan Avenue), Atlanta (Lenox Square), Houston (The Galleria), and online at brooksbrothers.com.
November has already been a very busy month for us! We designed an original bag for Madonna who recently came through St. Paul on her world tour. The following week, we designed a guitar strap for Bob Dylan and made him a beautiful Graystone Canvas duffle.
Why all this fuss with celebrities? We were invited by the Xcel Energy Center to participate in presenting local gifts to these artists as a thank you for performing at “The X”. We loved the idea and were excited to jump in — it’s just another great way to share our “American Made” message!

Last week we were thrilled to have U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar visit us and take a factory tour. We chatted with her about our 100 year history, our design process and commitment to making products in America. The Senator took the time to meet with our team; from leather cutters to product developers and spent over an hour getting to know us. Each and every time we give a tour it reminds us what an important role we are playing in creating jobs and supporting U.S. manufacturing, and the Senator couldn’t have agreed more. Here’s what she posted on her Facebook page later that day:
“The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce has been holding workforce training sessions for a reason–we need to train our students for the jobs of the future. There are many skilled workers retiring & at the same time we are seeing an uptick in Made in America manufacturing. J.W. Hulme Co., which I visited yesterday is a good example. Over 100 years ago they started making awnings in St. Paul and now they make beautiful leather purses & packs. They just hired new sewers & are planning to hire more! Check out their showroom at 678 7th Street West St. Paul.”
The best part? We just might have a new customer! Check out the Senator perusing our catalog. We think the Mini Excursion Tote would be perfect for her on the campaign trail. Or any of our fine leather tech accessories, perfect for any woman on-the-go!
